The main conflict is that Coach Genghis, Count Olaf, is trying to steal Violet, Klaus, and Sunny’s fortune. It starts when Coach Genghis is making the three Baudelaires, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, run laps. That was his plan to steal their fortune. He made them paint a large glow in the dark track for them to run around after dinner when it was dark. He wanted them to be so tired they would fail their classes and get suspended, that way they would come and live with Count Olaf, Coach Genghis. This is a conflict, instead of an important event because the idea that Count Olaf always comes up with a new way to try to steal the Baudelaire fortune is what fuels each story, so without this conflict there would be no story. This is a problem because Count Olaf will do what whatever it takes to get his greedy hands on the Baudelaire fortune, even committing murder. This problem affects the Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. The three orphans react fearful of what he might do to them if he gets his hands on their fortune. The author states on page 21, “But how can a computer keep Count Olaf away?” Klaus asked. “He could still show up and cause trouble, no matter what appears on a computer screen.” Klaus does not believe the computer can stop Count Olaf. He must be scared of what he can do to the Baudelaires when he does show up at the school. The characters try to find out what Count Olaf is really up to because of the conflict. On page 78 the author explains, “What we need is a plan. Now, we need to prove to Nero that Coach Genghis is really Count Olaf. How can we do that?” They react by trying to create a plan to expose Coach Genghis’ true identity. The conflict is external because it is caused by an outside force. The conflict is situational because Count Olaf scheming to steal the Baudelaire fortune is a situation in the conflict, it is not personal. I have not finished the book yet, so I do not know if the conflict was resolved.

The Fault In Our Stars written by John GreenIn the book “The Fault in Our Stars,” Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters, and are the main characters of the story. They are important because they both are struggling with their diseases and trying to be healthy teenagers. Hazel was not happy to attend the group, but her parents forced her to attend because they wanted her to meet new people that could associate with her. According to the story, “I went to support group for the same reason that I’d once allowed nurses with a mere eighteen months of graduate education to poison me with exotically named chemicals: I wanted to make my parents happy” (pg. 7-8). This quote shows that Hazel only went to support group to please her parents and not on her will. Hazel is a dynamic character while Augustus is the static character throughout the story.Hazel is a dynamic character because, in the start of the book, she is depressed and as and is only living to make her parents happy but toward the end, she becomes more satisfied with life, and she is glad she went through all of her struggles because without she would have never meet Augustus, the person she loves.Augustus is a static character of the novel. He is a static character because, at the beginning of the book, he saw life through metaphors and at the end of the book he still viewed the world the same way as he said, "I am a big believer in metaphor Hazel Grace.’”(pg. 20-21) Brand-New Emily by Ginger RueThe main conflict of the book begins when Emily decides it will be a great idea to become [popular through interviewing Colby Summers (biggest artist in the book sort of like Justin Bieber), for her newspaper. As she gets closer to Colby and become popular she soon releases that she is acting just like her bullies used to treat her and she decides to go back to how she was and not try to be popular because being popular is not everything. The conflict is internal because Emily has to decide what's more important being popular or being a bully to people she used to be friends with. This shown when her uncles girlfriend id advising her, “Emily, the point was to overcome Heatherly, not become her”(204).This happened after she told her peers to be mean to Heatherly, the biggest bully of emilys.Another example of Emily becoming a mean girl is when she is dared by the popular to go bully one of her past friends, “Fat Girl’s too young to drive. She must be walking home.Let’s drive past her and honk and wave!”(213).When she gets home she decides to care less about being popular as making fun of others is not worth it. 27 Days written by Ally Gervais In 27 Days, the main characters are Hadley and Archer. As stated in Chapter 1, "On the contrary, the guy is – was – the school’s social pariah." Archer is a very unsociable and strange person so the night that he commits suicide everyone is shocked, especially Hadley. Hadley never really got to know Archer, none of the students did. For Hadley, it was weird he was introverted as stated in Chapter 1. She characterized him as "Actually, Archer Morales was a pretty damn handsome guy, which made it all the more confusing as to why he was such an antisocial outcast." The word other people would use to describe him would be "weird." He never really interacted much with others and kept everything to himself; which may have been the reason for him committing suicide.
Prisoner B-3087 written by Alan GratzYanek Gruener is a young Jewish boy in 1930's in Poland. The book follows Yanek's journey and gives a more details on how he was able to survive through many work camps and without his family.Yanek is dynamic because of his perspective of live changes. One quote that helps build upon this idea is, "Sometimes I wish the Allies would just drop bombs on us"(158).In other words, he no longer wants to suffer and just desires to die they can't take working non-stop any longer.Along with his view of living, his ideas of survival also change. One such action that shows changes is as following," With Moshe's help, I learned to be anonymous enough to survive for months"(73).This quote indicates that unlike before, Yanek now knows to be anonymous and not try hard enough that they will notice but also be cautious and not be bad enough they will notice.
