Look at our information Our Interview:
Symposium Reflection #4
My driving question was “How are the systems of human trafficking parallel to the systems of slavery?” One of the revisions that my group and I did before we turned in our project was that we painted the background of the creative piece black and we glued some pieces of our creative piece that were falling together and we also glued pieces that were falling off the tri-fold. Something new that I learned about my topic is that people who have been through human trafficking or slavery don’t like to talk about their experiences because they feel that their owner will come after them or their family. The victims are also afraid to speak up because sometimes people don't understand and blame them for everything. Through this experience,I learned how to manage a team and divide work into equal parts. My oral presentation skills improved through this experience because the more I presented the better my presentation got because I was getting used to the quaestions and such. If I could’ve done anything differently I would’ve put more time into the details and make them look a bit neater. One thing that I would tell an incoming symposium student is that they should relax and take their time on it and not wait until the last minute because multiple of my friends waited until the last minute and they were very stressed.
Symposium Reflection #3
I learned a lot of new things about my topic such like that it happens locally and it can happen when you least expect it.We have decided to do the middle passage on one side and a mother board on the other while in the middle we have two human chains one that is only one color and the other multi color. This will be like this to represent how only one skin color was enslaved but now any colored person can be trafficked. For our interactive piece we will have a 3D maze that is in a shape of a thumb. Inside the thumb we will have a little human that can be moved and the people will be able to help them find a way out.My team and I will have to meet up on the weekend in order to finish our artistic piece.
Symposium Reflection #2
My driving question did change, now it is not only about the systems of human trafficking but also the parrales it poses with the systems of slavery. We changed our question because human trafficking was not enough of a twist. My group and I are conducting an interview. We had originally planned to send 2 emails out for an interview just in case one person did not respond, but to our surprise both responded! We are doing an interview because you can really experiment human trafficking/slavery and for a survey it can be predicted on what the responses would be. It has been easy to plan our decoration of our board. It has been difficult to find who to interview. We still need to paint our board, find 3 more articles, start on our art piece, and finish the ISD. To make sure we get all this done we need to go to more after school sessions and get everything done by the due dates. The collaboration with my team is going along great, we communicate with each other and we divide the work evenly between all of us. The only thing we need to work on is doing everything ahead of time and not waiting until the last minute.
Symposium Reflection #1
The article by the Journal of Criminal Justice talks about the origin of human trafficking and as time passed human trafficking became a recognized violation of human rights but it never stopped. Another article by the U.S. Department Of State compares the slavery to human trafficking and it states how human trafficking is modern slavery. This article relates to our universal theme parallels. The article by the FBI defines the different types of human trafficking and what the government is doing to stop it.The last article by the National Human Trafficking Hotline states why human trafficking even exists.Something shocking that I learned while doing research is that women are the majority of Traffickers, or people that traffic others, so women are the ones selling mostly their own gender. We did not change anything through the exploration of our topic. We did not change anything from our topic or any elements because Ms.Park approved of my team's ideas. In the next steps, I hope to find more articles that include a perspective of someone who has been a victim of human trafficking.I also hope to find an article or two on the actual statistics of human trafficking. My team is collaborating greatly and we have no complications as of now.One thing my teams does need to work on how we manage our time and doing things ahead of time and not procrastinating.
